The range of North American Porcupine extends through boreal and temperate forests, from Alaska to Hudson Bay and Labrador, and south through the continental United States and to northern Mexico. In the south this species is sometimes found in plains with very small woodlots or lone trees, as illustrated in the photos from the Texas Panhandle below.
